Welcome home.
Introducing House Church.
Let’s face it, the pandemic has changed us. It’s changed the way we see ourselves, how we see others, and how we interact and move about in this world. It’s also changed the way many of us are engaging with God and with community.
The truth is change is inevitable. And while change can be difficult, change doesn’t always have to be bad. In fact, change can oftentimes be for the better. The real question is how do we respond to change and our constantly changing environment?
We’ve always said that the church was never intended to be defined or confined to a single building or a place. Instead, church is anywhere and everywhere God’s people gather.
That’s why we’re so excited to be launching House Church — a brand new, but not really new way of doing and being church here at Common Good. In fact, the concept of House Church isn’t original at all; it’s actually ancient. And it dates all the way back to the birth and origin of the very first church in Acts 2 which tells us that the early church gathered in homes, not just synagogues.
As we find ourselves (almost) post-pandemic and trying to navigate life and faith in this new normal, we believe this is an invitation for our church to embrace the new, by revisiting the old. And as we navigate what life and faith will look like for each of us moving forward, what better time to embrace new and different ways of being and doing church, than right now. Because the truth is, things are never going back to what they used to be and the only way forward, is forward. So why not use this opportunity to bring church to people right where they are, instead of expecting people to come to us?
“Every day, they met together in the temple and ate in their homes. They shared food with gladness and simplicity. They praised God and demonstrated God’s goodness to everyone. The Lord added daily to the community those who were being saved.”
— Acts 2:46-47
Church is right where you are.
House Church is the opportunity to join the Common Good family like never before, right where you are.
Now you don’t need to be close or even in the same city as a Common Good Church location to be a part of the Common Good community — you can sign up to host a CG House Church and bring Common Good to you!
The format for House Church is simple:
Gather with others in your home on Sunday (or another day of the week)
Turn on the TV and watch our Church Online virtual worship experience together
Engage in authentic discussion leveraging the reflection questions provided at the end of every service
Spend time praying for one another and breaking bread together by sharing in a communal meal
Participate in Love Your Neighbor Sunday activities every fourth Sunday, and other virtual or localized events and activities
House Church allows you to engage in meaningful community in the comforts of your own home while still staying connected to the larger Common Good family and being supported by the Common Good pastoral team.
Hosting a House Church is simple! The future of the church starts with you.
By hosting your own House Church, you get to set the culture. Build the community you’ve always wanted, and bring church to the people that matter to you most, all while staying connected to the larger Common Good family.
Follow these three easy steps below to get started today (click to expand):
-
Sign up to host a House Church. Fill out the “Host a House Church” form and let us know that you’re interested in hosting. We want to know who you are so we can give you the tools, resources and support to host well.
You and your community will have access to the Common Good pastoral team and all of our content, so you can spend your energy and time where it matters most — being a great host.
-
Invite your family, your friends, your co-workers, and anyone else in your local community to be a part of your House Church. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate God’s love through hospitality and to reach out to those that God has brought into your sphere of influence that might not feel comfortable attending “regular church.”
You can also open up your House Church to others in the Common Good family who might be looking for a House Church near them.
-
Join the larger Common Good Church family each week by watching our Church Online virtual worship experience on Sundays at 10am (or on demand any other day and time of the week) and by attending and participating in other virtual and/or localized events and activities including classes, workshops, and Love Your Neighbor Sunday on fourth Sundays.
We also encourage you to find freedom in gathering in other meaningful ways as a community and to find natural ways of doing life together outside of Sundays, whether that be fun activities or hanging out informally.
