Celebrating Black History Month

February is Black History Month, a time to deliberately and intentionally:

  • Acknowledge and honor the plight of Black people, especially the descendants of the transatlantic slave trade.

  • Highlight the often overlooked and minimized historical contributions Black people have made to the development of society.

  • Celebrate the culture derived from the rich heritage of the African Diaspora. Including but not limited to: language, music, food, dance, art, business and scholarship

  • Validate the Imago Dei (image of God) within Black people. In doing so, we honor the existence, value, and quality of all Black lives and their experiences.

As Common Good Church, we encourage you to take time this month to continue to learn and/or actively participate in community events taking place in and around our region. We’ve provided a few resources below. If you know of an event or resources that you’d like to add to the list, you can email connect@commongood.church.

  • The University of Washington has curated a variety of Black History Month resources here that are taking place throughout the month of February

  • Support a local Black owned business here in the Seattle area.

  • Listen and Learn: Girl Trek’s Black History Bootcamp Podcast here
