Day 2 — Spirit Empowered

#DETOX is designed to prioritize God in the new year as we allow him to cleanse and renew our souls (Psalm 51:10). Together, we are committing to 21 days of prayer and fasting so that we might come into greater alignment with God’s will, purposes and plans believing and trusting in His power alone to create lasting impact and change in our lives, our church and our world.

Over the course of our #DETOX journey, we will have a daily prayer focus that will help guide and unify us as a community in prayer as we seek God's heart together on a variety of topics. You can find an overview of our daily prayer focus topics here. The following post is meant to serve  as a reminder and inspiration on what and how you might pray on today's prayer focus, but should not limit how God leads you in praying. Be sure to follow along daily at our #DETOX Daily Blog here.

Prayer Focus: Spirit Empowered

Do you ever feel lonely? I do when I have to eat alone at times when I’m traveling. The worst is eating alone at a restaurant, which I really try to avoid. I’d order something to go and eat in my hotel room than do that.

What if I told you that it is possible to not feel alone even when you are alone, physically?! Impossible. But it is possible with God, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is always with us and is our strongest supporter, as we see in John 14: 16-17:

“Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever — 17 the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.”

God the Holy Spirit resides in us forever to empower us for life and ministry. These may come in gifts of strength, creativity, leadership, prophecy, tongues, healing, teaching, giving, and the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control) to name some of them.

The most essential gift that comes from the Holy Spirit is a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and being united with him forever. Through this union, we come to know God more fully and ourselves. We can, then, experience peace and comfort even when we are physically alone because God is with us.

  • Pray to grow in your understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit who binds you to Christ. Open yourself to all of God—the Father, Son, and Spirit.

  • Pray to grow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Which gifts do you need during this time in your life?

  • Pray that you can be more humble by admitting that you can’t do life alone and in your own strength, but are in need of the Advocate to guide you.

  • Pray for an empowering of the Holy Spirit in all that you do— work, ministry, and leisure.

  • Pray for the church to be led by the Holy Spirit in its mission to the world
